Tokai Community Church

Together, we serve to know Christ and to make Christ known, for the glory of God.

A family-friendly, Bible-believing church in Tokai, in the southern suburbs of Cape Town. We meet on Sundays at eight, ten, and half past six — and through the week in homes across the area.

Hebrews 10:25
“Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another — and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”

Sundays

Three services, every week of the year

08:00Morning service. Children are welcome to stay in with you.
10:00Everyone starts together, then children up to Grade 10 go to their age groups for teaching. Livestreamed on YouTube.
18:30Evening service. No separate children's teaching.

A service lasts between seventy-five and ninety minutes. We sit in auditorium-style seating, sing together with a music team leading, and about halfway through one of our pastors preaches from the Bible for around half an hour.

If you're new

You won't be asked to do anything you're not comfortable with

  • What to wear. Come as you are. Some people dress smartly, others casually. There's no dress code.
  • When to arrive. Parking is rarely a problem. Aim to be there five minutes before the start so you can find a seat easily.
  • What to do. If you're not used to church, watch what everyone else does. We sit for most of the service and stand to sing. The person leading will say what's happening at each point.
  • What to bring. A Bible is helpful but not essential — an app on your phone works just as well.
  • Your children. There's a Baby Room in the auditorium for parents of babies under one, where you can still see and hear the service.
  • Being met. Write to us before you come and we'll arrange for someone friendly to greet you at the door.

What we believe

Committed to Jesus Christ as Lord, and to the Bible as the Word of God

All our activities are focused on explaining and applying the lordship of Jesus to everyday living; on encouraging fellowship with one another; and on introducing Jesus to those who don't yet know Him. What we believe shapes how we behave, and that works out in five objectives.

  • Magnification — to more passionately adore, praise and thank God in all things, especially when we gather.
  • Membership — to see all people find connection, community and care within God's family, visible in this local church.
  • Maturity — to know God deeply, growing in faith, hope and love, and making gospel-driven decisions in all of life.
  • Ministry — to embrace a lifestyle of sacrificially serving one another.
  • Mission — to see more people hear and understand the gospel for the first time, through local witness and global partnerships.

TCC is a constituent church of REACH SA: an autonomous local church with its own constitution, in fellowship with like-minded churches. Reformed, Evangelical, Anglican.

Since 1983

From a school staff room to Tokai Road

A Sunday school started at Kirstenhof Primary in March 1983, planted from St James, Kenilworth. A parents' Bible study followed in June, and by September the first services were being held in the staff room under Rev. Desmond Inglesby.

The congregation outgrew the staff room, then the school hall. Land was bought in Raapkraal Road in 1987, but in 1989 a better site came up — the old Breezeland Nursery, right on Tokai Road. Two years of building later, in 1991, the church moved into 28 Tokai Road, where it still meets.

Listen & watch

Every Sunday morning's sermon is posted on YouTube, and the 10am service is livestreamed there. Selected sermons from our library are on the TCC Sermon Podcast — Spotify, Apple Podcasts and YouTube. Older recordings live in the sermon archive.
